Major rain storms arrived in Greenwood over the weekend and have caused flooding in a number of areas as well as leaving some bridges and dams compromised across the county. Greenwood County emergency management coordinator George McKinney said he and his staff had been operational since about midnight Saturday night and were closely monitoring the situation.

A Ninety Six man was arrested last Thursday after authorities say he viciously assaulted his girlfriend and would not let her leave his home. James Craig Partain, 21, of 223 Beach Dr., Ninety Six, has been charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, kidnapping, resisting arrest and malicious damage or property in connection with the incident.

Convicted sex offender arrested in Ninety Six
A man who has been convicted of multiple sex crimes was arrested Tuesday after authorities discovered he had not registered as a sex offender as required by law. Zail Ray Gavin, 57, of 108 Port Royal Dr., Ninety Six, has been charged with failure to register as a sex offender in connection with the incident.
