A Ninety Six man is in custody after police say he threw his girlfriend's daughter's rabbit against a wall, killing the animal. Phillip Clayborne Gettys, 42, of 103 Hicks Ct., Ninety Six, has been charged with cruelty to animals in connection with the incident.

NSPD arrests man in connection with alleged armed robbery
The Ninety Six Police Department has arrested a second man in connection with an armed robbery that occurred on June 7. Kederick Rashad Williams, 20, of 671 Grier St., has been charged with kidnapping, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime and strong arm robbery in connection with the incident. Ninety Six Police Chief Chris Porter said Williams turned himself in at the Ninety Six Police Department Monday morning.
Council approves millage increase for technology center
Greenwood County Council on Tuesday passed third and final reading of an ordinance to appropriate millage for the three school districts in Greenwood County and the G. Frank Russell Technology Center. The vote passed 5-2 after lengthy discussion on the legality of the increase.

Aiken County School Board sets interviews for superintendent candidates
Members of the Aiken County Board of Education will interview the four finalists for the position of District superintendent Saturday in executive session. The finalists are Sean Alford, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction at Dorchester School District Two in Summerville; King Laurence, associate superintendent for the Division of Instruction and Accountability with the Aiken County Public School District; Kevin O'Gorman, associate superintendent for instruction and accountability with the Berkeley County School District in Moncks Corner; and Mark Petersen, superintendent of Greenwood 52 School District in Ninety Six.

Phillip Claiborne Gettys, 42, of 103 Hicks Court, Ninety Six, has been charged with first degree domestic violence in connection with the incident.

The Confederate Flag
I've been writing OpEd columns for The Edgefield Advertiser for a little over a year now, covering many subjects generally from a more liberal viewpoint than you might find in other area newspapers. I wrote one last October about the Confederate flag and the heritage we all have here in Edgefield County.
