Anthony "Tony" Ray Brewer, 44, of 605 Foundry Road, husband of Deana Hewett Brewer, died on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Hospice House. Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Elaine Smith Allison and the late Fred "Bud" Allison.

Woman killed in crash
Greenwood County Coroner Sonny Cox identified the victim as 37-year-old Ella Christina Cook of Ninety Six. Cook died as the result of blunt force trauma sustained in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene, Cox said.
Piedmont Tech BCT Program Wins Award

Bear cub spotted in Ninety Six
Residents of Ninety Six got quite a surprise Saturday night when they saw a bear cub walking through the park in the middle of town. The bear was spotted in the park late Saturday night.

Arrest made in 2009 traffic fatality
The South Carolina Highway Patrol arrested a man Monday in connection with a 2009 crash that took the life of a 29-year-old Mexican national. Filiberto Perez-Castillo has been charged with one count of felony DUI resulting in death and one count of felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury in connection with the incident.

Woman charged with pointing gun at brother
Martha Jo Roberts, 68, of 2211-B Scotts Ferry Rd., Ninety Six, has been charged with pointing and presenting a firearm in connection with the incident. According to a report from the Greenwood County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched to Roberts' home after her brother reported that she had fired a gun at him.

Norma Thomason Hines, 81, resident of Gatewood, widow of Cullen "Sonny" Hines, passed away on June 8, 2015, at Hospice House, after struggling valiantly for over 15 years with myelofibrosis, a rare bone marrow cancer. She was determined to continue on her life's journey despite being told her life expectancy was 5 to 7 years.

Police searching for armed robbery suspect
Police say they are searching for 20-year-old Kederick Rashad Williams in connection with the June 7 armed robbery of a woman and a teenager at the old Edgewood Middle School in Ninety Six. Police believe Smith brought the victims to the old school to set them up for the robbery under the guise of purchasing marijuana.
School budgets on hold
The ordinance levying taxes for the three school districts within in Greenwood County is on hold for another week while the three districts attempt to work out a disagreement over millage for the G. Frank Russell Career Center. Greenwood District 50 oversees the career center, though it operates as an autonomous entity unto itself.
