Couple facing drug, neglect charges

A couple was arrested Monday night following a domestic dispute over their child where deputies found a quantity of cocaine. Matthew Steven Pittman, 35, of 229 Jebosha St., and Jennifer Carry Burnette, 26, are each facing charges of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and unlawful neglect of a child in connection with the incident.

Rachel Hunt Villafuerte, 34, of 202 Pettit Dr., Ninety Six, has been charged with unlawful conduct toward a child in connection with the incident. According to a report from the Greenwood County Sheriff's Office, agents with the Greenwood County Drug Enforcement Unit were notified by officials at Department of Social Services that Villafuerte's two children, one less than a year old and the other a 5-year-old, both tested positive for methamphetamines.

Charges dismissed for man accused of sexual assault

A Fountain Inn man accused of sexually assaulting a woman earlier this year in Ninety Six had the charges relating to the incident dismissed at a preliminary hearing. David Clay Seymour, 23, of 101 First St., Fountain Inn, was charged with kidnapping and assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct in connection with the April 2015 incident.

The fire touched off at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday night at 161 Belle Rive Dr., drawing firefighters from six different fire departments. Jerry Roberts, fire chief at Lower Lake Volunteer Fire Department, said he was unsure about what may have started the fire.

Coroner: Fire responsible for death

A man who was found dead while a fire at his residence was being extinguished died as the result of the fire, according to Greenwood County Coroner Sonny Cox. Cox said 75-year-old Jerry Alan Lance died as the result of carbon monoxide toxicity sustained in the fire.

Fire destroys Pucketts Ferry home

Greenwood County fire coordinator Steve Holmes said the fire touched off about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at 131 Watersedge Rd. The first emergency responder on scene reported flames through the roof. "There was a lot of heavy lightning in the area," Holmes said.
